At Elegantly Eccentric Designs, we create timeless pieces, and want for those pieces to wear and last well.
Freshwater pearls.
Freshwater pearls are a sustainable “gemstone”, consisting of layered deposits of calcium carbonate nacre, produced by river molluscs.
Pearls should be kept away from acids- they will melt in a strong vinegar, eventually, and brief exposure will dull the surface. Pearls can also absorb odors, for better or worse.
To clean, soap, water, and a soft bristled toothbrush are a good start. The oils from your skin will condition pearls and give them a nice shine.
Metals.
Many of our pieces are solid bronze, brass, copper, or silver. These are not plated or coated, and will tarnish or develop a patina.
Ultrasonic cleaners, soap, water, and a soft brush, and Sunshine polishing cloths are all recommended. If your piece includes pearls, beads, or gemstones, please also see guidelines for care each of those.
